Last week we made our final pilgrimage to our favourite place in Australia; Melbourne. Not only were we returning to the city we once called home, some of our favourite people were joining us for the week. It was to be a holiday filled with coffee, brunches and catch-ups, what more could we ask for?!
As our friends were relative newbies to the city, we played the role of unconvincing tour-guides showing them our favourite patches of Melbourne.
We’ve already documented a lot of these places in our Insiders Guide to Melbourne so instead of re-hashing them here, we’ve lined up some of our favourite snaps from our week away to show you instead.
And what a week it was…
There was an artist’s apartment we found on Air Bnb nestled in the heart of Fitzroy.
Which offered an ‘oh so Melbourne’ base for us to rest our heads.
Or place to hide from the stereotypically erratic weather outside.
There were delicious meals and plenty of desserts, like these photogenic pastries from Eat a Scroll on Smith Street…
…and these cream-stuffed eclairs from a bakery on Acland Street, beautifully modelled by Lydia from My Culture Craving.
The desserts were burnt off with walks around St Kilda, as we basked in the unexpected sunshine.
There was also plenty of Melbourne street art.
And detours down dank alleyways to hunt for the best.
There was even a fresh Banksy which had appeared the night before!
There were new favourite views of the city to be found from Northcote.
And, unfortunately, new Australian Rules Football guernseys to show off in…
But, very best of all, there were reunions. Jam-packed days followed by wine-fuelled nights and late mornings catching up with coffee in bed. All shared with friends we haven’t seen in way too long.
And Melbourne was the perfect backdrop.
